How is a photoelectric beam detector work?

it's work in pair - one send and one receive then create a path of beam in between. Setup is simple, just connecting two wires for signal to your burglar alarm (that supports wired zone). it's not pet intelligent as anything break the path of beam transmission, it alarms. the voltage is 12V.
